About Me

My photo
Back Road Whispers is a fanciful name for just liking to travel the back roads of the world, wondering what whispers are lingering in the weathered buildings, rusty farm equipment and closed and boarded up businesses. I stop when I am able and “photograph the past for the future” so my grandchildren and their grandchildren will see what it was like back in the “good old days” of the 20th and early 21st century. Lately I have been exploring the world listening to whispers from palaces, castles, villages, and museums. The whispers need no interpretation.

JUST HANGING AROUND - THIS THAT AND THE OTHER -AND PHOTOS THAT DIDN'T MAKE THE CUT

Day three was a quiet day that was spent in the neighborhood.  Not to say we didn't get a lot done, because we did, but no famous paintings, no stupendous statues, no great and fabulous paintings, just good ole life in the big little city town.  I didn't get photos of the thrift store or the Dollar General, but just ask and I can run back by there.  And if you are really curious I will take a photo of the grocery store in Holiday Island.  I told you we were wild and crazy.  We did start off with a beautiful country church, that unfortunately is no longer holding services.

A few Crystal Bridges that caught the eye but were left off the Crystal Bridges posting to save space.

The first one is Andy Warhol, the second is a paper collage, the third is very very tall and I have no idea other than that.

The Roaring River Fish Hatchery was a delightful visit - man there are a lot of fish to catch below the hatchery and they were catching them!!

It had been raining so the water was a bit murky,
but look at the size of these babies!!

The waters of the hatchery are provided by a spring that dumps 20 million gallons of clear 57 degree water into the Roaring River.  Divers exploring the spring in 1979 thought they had reached the bottom at 224 feet down.  In 2021 a dive team, with SCUBA type gear, reached a depth of 472 feet, however they did not reach the bottom of the spring.

Miscellaneous shots around the fish Hatchery

A few leftovers from the hatchery

A rotting log feeding a seed - nature is beautiful

On the road to the farm - two of my favorite things, rust and wood

Some from the Eureka Springs day.

That's it for this trip.  Good food, good company, beautiful scenery, friendly locals, and memories to hold on to for a long time.

Already looking at where to go next.  See you there.
