About Me

My photo
Back Road Whispers is a fanciful name for just liking to travel the back roads of the world, wondering what whispers are lingering in the weathered buildings, rusty farm equipment and closed and boarded up businesses. I stop when I am able and “photograph the past for the future” so my grandchildren and their grandchildren will see what it was like back in the “good old days” of the 20th and early 21st century. Lately I have been exploring the world listening to whispers from palaces, castles, villages, and museums. The whispers need no interpretation.

HI HO HI HO IT'S ACROSS THE BAY WE GO!!

Today the joke was on us....we had heard there was a ferry we could take across the bay...whoohoo!!!  Maybe we could see the dolphins, maybe the seas wouldn't be too rough, maybe we could get some good pictures....LOLOLOLOLOLOL.  The ride was maybe three minutes long and a quarter of a mile long.  Oh well it was still interesting.

Pilot house of the ferry that was coming in as we left.

There were a few stowaways that entertained (or scared) us on the trip.  This one decided to head up the ladder, hopping up one step after the other.

Walt and Dianne both had
tour guides.  Since the engines had to be turned off all the windows were open.  Dianne's buddy on the left was sitting right on the window ledge; Walt's at least had the good grace to sit on the ships rail.  I really think if we had been eating Dianne's would have come right into the car after a tidbit...a bit freaky.

Once on the other side we went over a good sized bridge.  There were signs all across it that ruined all our fun!  "Do Not Jump From Bridge"   Well, hello, if you are dumb enough to jump from that bridge you are probably too dumb to read the sign.

Do Not Jump From Bridge

Safely making it across the bridge without succumbing to the urge to jump we pulled over to get a couple of pictures.

We just missed a fishing boat going out.  By the time we parked and got out of the car he was gone.

The plane was displayed very close to the airport...gives one a warm fuzzy feeling.

Sitting right on the water, I think I could handle living here, sitting on the observation deck and watching the ships come and go with a cup of coffee or glass of wine.

Displayed outside a shop along the road.  Another had this same configuration but you actually walked into its mouth to enter the store.

Too soon our time on the "other side of the bay" came to an end.  Reluctantly we left the truck and got on our little dinghy to head home.

Surprisingly this baby was in the marina of a gated community...go figure.
